Tessa and Paul’s Ford Piquette Avenue Plant wedding in Detroit was centered on being present the entire day. They weren’t caught up in timelines or small details. They were focused on each other and the people around them, and you could feel that in every part of the day.

The venue already brings so much with the historic cars and original details that it doesn’t need much added to it. We spent time downtown for portraits, made the most of cocktail hour with couples portraits of their guests, and ended the night with flash portraits that felt fun and a little different from the rest of the day!

The Details, Getting Ready, & a First Look

The morning started at Element by Westin Detroit where they took their time getting ready before their Ford Piquette Avenue Plant wedding. Tessa got ready with her mom and bridesmaids, and it all felt unrushed. Her dress was stunning, and her hair and makeup by Halie of Reborn Bridal Co. pulled the entire look together. I work with Halie a lot, and she always does an amazing job with my brides!

Paul spent the morning getting ready nearby in another room, and their first look was one of the sweetest. The second he saw her, he got emotional. It was quiet and real, just the two of them taking it in before everything picked up.

Newlywed & Bridal Portraits in Downtown Detroit

Before heading to their Ford Piquette Avenue Plant wedding, we moved right from their first look into portraits at the hotel and in downtown Detroit, which I’ll never not love. We started at Element by Westin, using the staircases and window light, then headed to The Belt for a completely different feel with more texture and movement.

Tessa and Paul just got it. They were present, up for anything, and trusted the process, which made everything flow so naturally. The bridal party tied in perfectly too with black dresses, classic tuxes, and soft greens in the florals. It all felt classic and timeless.

A Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Wedding Ceremony in Detroit

Tessa and Paul’s Ford Piquette Avenue Plant wedding ceremony took place right inside the main space. It was surrounded by historic cars and the character of the building itself, which felt so unique. I loved the exposed wood and industrial details. It really gave everything a distinct feel, and you don’t need much decor because the space speaks for itself.

The ceremony was beautiful and emotional, from Tessa walking down the aisle with her dad, the way Paul looked at her, and the energy in the room as they were pronounced husband and wife. It all felt genuine and focused on what actually mattered. Before the wedding, Tessa told me that their first kiss was the moment she was most looking forward to, and it didn’t disappoint!

Cocktail Hour at Ford Piquette Avenue Plant

Cocktail hour was one of those parts of the day that just flowed. When the timeline is set up well, it gives us time to capture a little bit of everything without pulling anyone out of the moment. I always try to use this time intentionally and making sure I’m documenting guests, conversations, and everything happening throughout the room.

For Tessa and Paul, it meant their gallery didn’t just focus on them, but also on the people who were there celebrating with them. Friends catching up, hugs, drinks in hand. The moments they might not have seen, but will get to relive later and share with their guests.

During the planning process, they told me it was important for them to actually be part of cocktail hour. Because we got most of their portraits done after their first look, they were able to be fully present, and we used this time to capture their guests.

Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Wedding Reception

Cocktail hour flowed right into the reception, and they had beautifully decorated long tables with candlelight, and white florals surrounded by antique cars. This space feels so rich in history, and the room felt warm and full in that way you can’t really design. It just happens when everyone is genuinely happy to be there.

Tessa’s dad’s speech was one of my favorite moments from the entire day. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Paul told me he was most looking forward to their first dance ever, because Tessa doesn’t dance, so their first dance was so special to him.

After speeches, we snuck up to the rooftop for a few romantic flash portraits at night before heading back down for dances. They stayed present through all of it. Fully in it and not worried about anything else. Tessa and Paul were amazing and just genuinely happy to be married. Truly the perfect couple to work with!

Downtown Detroit is one of my favorite places for weddings. I love the the mix of architecture, walkability, and the energy. This city gives you so much variety without ever needing to go far. It always photographs in a way that feels both grounded and elevated. And a Ford Piquette Avenue Plant wedding is especially unique, with its history, industrial feel, and vintage cars. It’s a great downtown Detroit venue for couples who want something classic but not traditional, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites!
