A Detroit Yacht Club wedding in the middle of summer just hits different, and Chris and Emma’s day was the kind you don’t forget! They had the most colorful details with fresh greens and soft yellows, and gorgeous waterfront views. The energy of Belle Isle brought everything to life.

It was the middle of Dream Cruise weekend, and after the ceremony they rode away in Emma’s dad’s vintage Eldorado for a joyride around the island. Strangers stopped to cheer them on. It felt so intentional and definitely Detroit from start to finish!

Getting Ready, First Looks, & Wedding Party Portraits

The getting ready portion of Chris and Emma’s Detroit Yacht Club wedding felt so fresh, especially with all of the colorful details throughout their decor like the soft greens, warm yellows, and real lemons that made everything feel light and summery. It was the kind of color palette that just works so well for a summer wedding in Detroit, especially with the classic setting of the Yacht Club!

Emma kept things timeless with a simple dress, and Chris and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxes. Before the ceremony, she shared the sweetest first look with her bridesmaids and her dad. Both moments were so emotional and genuine.

A Beautiful Detroit Yacht Club Wedding Ceremony

Emma and Chris kept the decor for their Detroit Yacht Club wedding ceremony simple, and it was perfect for the space. Honestly the architecture, gorgeous chandeliers, and all of the textures of the room already add so much to the space.

When Emma walked down the aisle with both of her parents, you could feel the emotion immediately. Since they didn’t do a first look, this was the first time Emma and Chris saw each other, and it was so special. Emma was already tearing up, and her mom was wiping her tears away as they walked together. It was one of the sweetest moments of the day. You could see it on Chris’ face, too. This moment meant so much to them and was filled with all the emotion!

Wedding Party Portraits & a Vintage Car Ride on Belle Isle

After the ceremony we went right into full bridal party portraits at Detroit Yacht Club. Afterwards, Emma and Chris drove all around Belle Isle for newlywed photos in her dad’s vintage Eldorado. They had it decked out with florals, a “just married” sign, and classic tin cans tied to the back. Emma had one request which was photos in the convertible with her veil flowing in the wind, and it came together perfectly!

It was a hot summer day and the island was pretty busy. People even kept stopping to smile and congratulate them as they drove by. It was honestly one of those moments that will stick with me forever. We then made our way over to Oudolf Garden, a spot they wanted to include for portraits before heading back for their Detroit Yacht Club wedding reception.

A Detroit Yacht Club Wedding Reception

After their ride around Belle Isle, Emma and Chris went straight into their Detroit Yacht Club wedding reception. The energy in the room picked up quickly, especially during speeches. There were so many emotional moments, and I loved getting to document the reactions throughout the room, especially from the two of them.

They shared ahead of time that they were most looking forward to dancing. And instead of a traditional cake cutting, they brought in ice cream sandwiches from Cool Jacks which was such a hit! It was important to them to get some shots of them sharing their ice cream sandwiches together, and it was just as fun as it sounds.

We also stepped outside for a few sunset portraits and made our way to the DYC pool for a few photos in their wedding attire. This Detroit Yacht Club wedding felt so intentional and full of emotion, and it was the biggest honor to be Chris and Emma’s Detroit wedding photographer!

Why the Detroit Yacht Club Is a Great Detroit Wedding Venue

The Detroit Yacht Club is such a beautiful Detroit wedding venue. If you want something classic without it feeling overly traditional, it’s a great option. The gorgeous architecture and waterfront views do so much of the work for you, so you don’t need to go heavy on the decor. It’s a great fit for couples who care about the experience of the day just as much as how it looks. On top of that, it’s a venue that feels elevated and is easy to personalize.
